Today in Literary History: Jane Smiley

On September 26, 1949 American author Jane Smiley was born in Los Angeles, CA.  Smiley is the author of ten novels, one collection of short stories, and two nonfiction novels.  The AST collection includes Moo (FIC SMI), a novel about the secret money-making projects that spring up at one Midwestern university when serious financial trouble strikes and the Pulitzer Prize winning A Thousand Acres (FIC SMI), which is widely known as King Lear set on a farm in Iowa whether critics agree or not.
